THE ARTIST

Grew up in Massachusetts. Collected a Bachelor of Fine Arts, studying with Art Thrall and Carl Riter. Moved to Maine over forty years ago. Have always painted.

THE WORK

Painting is the process of becoming; the act of  an artist and a set of raw materials combining so that they become something new.  Then there is a separation: 

 

1. the artist moves on to continue becoming. My painting process is organic, taking form, growing and evolving on the canvas. For me painting is an event, existing only in the present. It is a constant state of becoming and the final product is simply a remnant, physical evidence of what takes place.

2. the painting also moves on.  It has become its own entity.  With each viewer, it becomes something new, dependent upon what the viewer brings to it and what it brings to the viewer.  What it is, what it becomes is no longer dependent on the artist; what it becomes is the process and responsibility of the viewer.

 

If I communicated with words I would become a writer.  Instead I am become a painter.   I paint memories. My intent is to evoke a response from the viewer.  I invite you to become a viewer.

 

PRICING

I have been selling paintings to people out of my studio for some time now and folks seem to feel that the pieces are fairly priced based on their knowledge of the market and their desire to own the piece(s).  Call it fair market pricing.  Shipping costs are the obligation of the buyer.

 

RETURN POLICY

Photographs are never the same as the actual piece and it is understandable that a buyer may decide that the piece purchased is not exactly what was expected.  If a buyer changes his/her mind within thirty days of receipt of a piece, the full cost of the piece will be refunded once it is received back into my hands in its original condition.  Shipping costs for both the purchase and the return are the obligation of the buyer.
